The Crescent* was an adaptive reuse project that gave new life to a long vacant 1960's automotive showroom. The building is now home to local businesses, as well as a large destination brewery. This catalyst project fits into a larger master plan for this block and stands to reinvigorate an area that has seen little in the way of investment for decades.

Project Highlights:

Introduced the guiding principle of Inclusive Design into the project – in its essence creating the best place possible for as many people as possible. This resulted in the inclusion of inclusive, gender-neutral bathrooms for the project – a first in a commercial building in Des Moines.

The project also furthered sustainability by reusing and adapting an existing building to serve the community for another 100 years. Secondhand furniture for common area spaces was also purchased to lessen the project’s impact on the environment.
